PITCH GUIDELINES
Pitches are accepted on a rolling basis.
Whether it’s just an idea, a rough draft, or a completed piece, we’ll take a look.
A few guidelines to consider in your pitch:
A description of your work. You can include previous published work, a description of your writing style, or areas of expertise or interest.
A paragraph on what you’d like to write about. This helps us understand your piece. You can mention sources here and talk about why you want to/should write this article. Any other important information may be included.
A specific, unique angle. We want something you don’t see in just any article. We want to see explorations of the subtext of a topic, the underbelly of a culture. How can you approach your story in a way that feels new?
Pre-reporting if necessary. Have you done research? Can you reach out for an interview? Do you have an in on your topic of interest?
A proposed word count. We typically look for 700 to 2,000 words, depending on the subject matter. Shorter for essays, longer for researched pieces.
A proposed due date.
Essays and articles that intersect art and science. We want topics that explore psychology, culture, art and creativity. We love the human experience and want an angle that’s new and enticing. We’re looking for writing that blends expression with real tangibility. Think, how a smell can affect our memory. Or movies that invoke a feeling of Summer in the middle of Winter.
Sections:
Culture. How people live, exist, behave and interact with their environment. Subsections include philosophy, psychology, and anthropology.
Arts and Entertainment. Movies, shows, books.
Wellness. Mental health, sex education, relationships, self improvement.
Personal Essays. Identity and our positions within time and space. Observations on the world and the self.
Features. Interviews, spotlights, and feature articles on artists, creatives, business owners, ect.
We love a full circle moment, when something that may not seem like it connects suddenly makes sense. When synchronicities flash in your face, imperceptible to anyone else. And we notice the small things, like a leafs veins branching into the whole of a tree trunk.
We emphasize connection, creativity, and culture.
